An image of fire spreading across what appears to be a mountain is going viral on the internet with a claim that it shows Pakistan's recent attack against India along the Line of Control (LoC).

What have users said?: Those sharing the photo have captioned it saying, "Pakistan retaliates! This is the Indian side along with the Line of Control (LoC) right now. You messed with the wrong people!."

What are the facts?: The claim is false. The viral image dates back to March 2025 and shows a fire breaking out in the Mourne area in County Down in Northern Ireland.

What led us to the truth?: We conducted a Google Lens search on the viral image and found the same visual posted on an X handle named 'Barra Best', a journalist associated with the BBC.

• Best had shared several posts from the incident on 18 March 2025 with a caption that said, "Fires tonight in the Mourne area in County Down, at Castlewellan."

• The visuals were credited one Claire Paine.

News reports: A report published in Belfast Live, which carried one of the photos taken by Paine, said that the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has reminded the public to protect their countryside from wildfires.

• The appeal came following a large fire in the Mournes area.

• The BBC, too, had published a report carrying one of the visuals seen in the post above. You can read it here.

Conclusion: Evidently, the image is old and does not show any recent attack by Pakistan on India as claimed in the viral post.
