Volcanic Lava in Beed? No, It’s Melted Rocks in Viral Video
The video of the melted rocks was shared claiming it to be volcanic lava by few users on social media.
CLAIM
A viral video doing rounds on social media, claims that Maharashtra's Beed district witnessed volcanic lava.
The video circulated with a caption in Marathi: "पृथ्वीची विनाशाकडे वाटचाल ....सजीव सृष्टीसाठी धोक्याची घंटा बीड जिल्यातील पहिलीच घटना सिरसाळा येथे आज ज्वालामुखी निघाला... डॉ.नावंदर साहेब हॉस्पिटल मागे शिवाजी नगर आता तरी सावध व्हा...झाडे लावा झाडे जगवा ...जीवन वाचवा"
It translates to “Heading towards the destruction of earth. Alarming situation for living beings. Volcano eruption in Saralla (Village) for the first time in Beed district, behind Dr Navandar Saheb Hospital in Shivaji Nagar. Please wake up now... plant trees, save lives.”
The video created a panic among people.
FACT
The substance in the video is not volcanic lava, but is actually rocks being melted after a high voltage cable fell on the ground.
On a simple reverse image search, a report by India TV showed up which clarified that the thing shown in the video is not volcanic lava.
According to the report published on Monday, 15 April, the rocks had melted after coming in contact with a high tension power cable of the state electricity distribution company that had fallen to the ground.
The incident took place at Sirsala village, Parali Vaijnath taluka of the Beed district. The India TV report also quoted the Beed district collector clarifying the issue.
As opposed to the what the caption along the video claimed, the black bitumen-like substance is not volcanic lava.
