Does This Video Show Muslims Recently Helping Flood Victims in Punjab? No!

We found that neither is this video recent nor is it related to the floods in Punjab.

A video of several people wearing skull caps and wading through heavily waterlogged roads with supplies is being shared on the internet as recent visuals from Punjab.

An Instagram user shared the video with a caption that said, "Those who were once defamed by BJP and RSS with crores spent on propaganda are today the ones helping flood victims in Punjab. Meanwhile, BJP and RSS are nowhere to be seen in relief efforts."

What is the truth?: Neither is this video recent nor is related to Punjab. The clip could be traced back to at least 25 August 2024 and reportedly shows madrasa students helping people in flood-affected areas in Bangladesh.

What led us to the truth?: Using the help of Google Lens, we performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral clip and found the same visuals posted by multiple users in August 2024.

• The caption of all these posts were in Bangla and talked about students of madrasa helping.

• One Facebook user had identified the location as Old Munshirhat Bazar in Bangladesh.

• This raised doubts about the authenticity of the claims that talked about the viral clip being from the recent floods in Punjab.

Finding the details: Next, we conducted a keyword search in Bangla with the words "বন্যার্তদের সাহায্য করছে মাদ্রাসার ছাত্ররা" (Translation: madrasa students helping flood victims) on YouTube.

• This directed us to the same visuals published on a verified channel called ' Ahlehadeeth Andolon Bangladesh'.

• The video was shared on 26 August 2024 with a description when translated to English said, "Madrasa students have once again come forward to meet the needs of the country. They are providing relief aid at their own risk."

• Protidiner Bangladesh, on its official YouTube channel, too, had shared a video report on 25 August 2024 that carried the same visuals.

Conclusion: It is evident that the video is old and is unrelated to the recent floods in Punjab.
