What are the facts?: The viral claim is false. The video is actually from 8 November 2022, when a man named Jesus Crosby was shot by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) in the United States.

How did we find that out?: A Google Lens search on the keyframes of the viral clip directed us to a report published by the Albuquerque Journal that carried a similar visual.

  • It said that Albuquerque Police Department (APD) gunned down a man named Jesus Crosby in November 2022 in the parking lot of the department's headquarters.

  • The report mentioned that Crosby was carrying nail clippers with the file extended, which was mistaken for a knife by the officers. When the man stepped forward, he was shot by two officers.

  • Crosby reportedly refused to surrender and was shouting obscenities.

The report was published on 11 June 2023.

What did the department say?: As per the press release by the APD, Crosby had threatened bank employees and customers after he got upset about not being able to withdraw money on 8 November 2022.

  • It mentioned that Crosby had prior criminal records.

  • An officer recognised Crosby standing in front of the transport center on the early hours of 10 November 2022.

  • When an officer tried detaining Crosby, he screamed profanities and lunged towards the officer with a white and blue plastic object.

  • However, after Crosby refused to surrender and lunged two additional steps, he was shot down by the officers.

The press release was shared on 23 December 2022.
