LeT Groups Likely to Target Chandni Chowk: Fake Message Resurfaces
The Delhi Police has confirmed to The Quint that it has not received any such input.
CLAIM
A viral message claiming that “two LeT groups have reached Delhi and are planning to carry out two suicide attacks”, has resurfaced on social media.
The ‘Intelligence branch’ has been given the credit for being the source of this input. The viral post further adds “Delhi electrical while sale market in Chandni Chowk area” is the likely target.
The claim is rampant on Facebook and Twitter, with people asking to share the message even further.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The viral message claiming that people should be careful as two LeT groups had entered Delhi is false.
A search on social media websites revealed that the message had resurfaced. A similar message had circulated in January as well. The Quint had reported on this exact message then, and found it to be fake.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
The Quint contacted DCP New Delhi, IPS Madhur Verma about this message. Dismissing this claim, he stated that it was a fake message. He also informed that the Delhi police has not received any input regarding the same and not issued any such warning.
The Quint had reached out to him in January this year as well. He had then responded similarly, asserting that the message was fake.
Advisory Issued in 2015
In December 2015, Delhi was indeed on alert after the Delhi police was informed that LeT planned on carrying out suicide attacks in Delhi and other cities across India.
