CLAIM

People on social media are sharing a picture of a bridge near Axis Mall in Kolkata’s Rajarhat area claiming that the bridge has developed cracks and another tragedy is in the making.

VERDICT: TRUE OR FALSE?

Well, not only is the picture fake, it is also an old one.

According to a report in The Telegraph, dated 9 February 2018, the picture is approximately two and a half years old.

Speaking to the daily, Chairman of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority, Debashis Sen had then said that there were no structural damages on the bridge. But the authority had decided to repair it in order to allay fears.

Another engineer told The Telegraph that the bridge was in a good condition and the image was doctored.
