Does This Video Show an IIMT Alumnus Selling Ice Cream? No, Claim Is Fake!

The ice cream vendor clarified that it was not him who was seen on the IIMT's hoarding.

A video showing a hoarding from the IIMT Group of Colleges, which shows the highest amount of package bagged by one of its students, and then a person dressed in a red shirt is going viral on social media platforms.

What have users said?: Those sharing the clip have captioned it saying, "The Education System is a Joke According to IIMT's Advertisement, Puneet Gautam received a Rs 1.80 Cr annual package. Puneet Gautam is selling ice cream under this fake advertisement."

What is the truth?: The viral claim is false. The man in red shirt identified himself as Shailendra Kumar, who also clarified in an interview that it was not him seen in the video.

How did we find that out?: We conducted a keyword search on Google with the words "iimt college ice cream" and came across a video report published by UP Tak.

  • It was shared on 23 August with a title that loosely translated to, "IIMT College put up the photo of an ice-cream vendor and claimed a package of Rs 1.8 crore? This is the truth of the viral video!."

  • The person (in red shirt) identified himself as an ice cream vendor named Shailendra Kumar, who clarified that it was not him seen on the hoarding.

  • He further said that the video was recorded by a student allegedly studying at the IIMT college and was intended as a joke.

  • The report added that Kumar apologised to the police and the college authorities for the viral video.

  • The college's director general named Ankur Johri condemned the viral video and identified the person seen on the hoarding as Puneet Gautam, a graduate from 2011 batch.

What did the institute say?: The official Facebook handle of the IIMT Group of Colleges, in a post shared on 21 August, condemned the viral video.

  • It said, "It is shameful and unfortunate that some mischievous elements are spreading false and insulting content against IIMT Group of Colleges."

  • The post added, "They have tried to compare our proud alumni with an unknown ice cream vendor and labelled it as fraud. We strongly condemn this act it is fake, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to defame IIMT's reputation."

Conclusion: It is evident that the video is being shared with a false claim.
