A photo of expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri meeting H Raja, the BJP candidate from Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga constituency, has gone viral on social media, particularly WhatsApp.

The message along with the photo reads: "சிவகங்கை தொகுதியில் போட்டியிடும் திரு.H.ராஜா அவர்களுக்கு அஞ்சா நெஞ்சர் மு.க.அழகிரி ஆதரவு" (Translated: BJP candidate from Sivaganga constituency Mr H Raja gains support from MK Alagiri.)

TRUE OR FALSE?

The photo is by no means recent, as pointed out by a Twitter user @dsureshkumar.

The photo, clicked by The Hindu photographer R Ashok, is in fact from 24 March 2014, when H Raja met Alagiri at the latter's residence in Madurai. H Raja was the BJP candidate from Sivaganga then too, but lost the battle AIADMK's PR Senthilnathan, the current MP from Sivaganga.

Raja had met Alagiri in 2014, after the latter was suspended from the DMK to seek his support in the general elections.

ALAGIRI RUBBISHES RUMOURS OF MEETING H RAJA

Speaking to Tamil magazine Vikatan, Alagiri too rubbished rumours of having offered his support to H Raja.

"Rumours of me having supported the BJP candidate are false. I have not extended my support to anyone. I will reveal my decision in a few days," he told the magazine.

Adding that an old photo was doing the rounds as recent, Alagiri reportedly said "I haven't extended my support to anyone. Nobody has come in search of me."
