A viral image falsely claimed that Dushyant Chautala announced an alliance with the BJP in 2019 Haryana Assembly election.

CLAIM

Given the 2019 Haryana Assembly election, an image on social media claims Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) which came into existence after the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) split in 2018, will form an alliance with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), if the need be.

The bulletin clipping of news channel Aaj Tak shows Dushyant Chautala’s image alongside some text in Hindi that reads, “ज़रुरत पड़ी तो बीजेपी का समर्थन - दुष्यंत”
(Will support the BJP if the need arises.)

Several social media users have shared the image on Facebook with a similar claim. The image shared by one Facebook user ‘Arav Back’ had over 480 shares at the time of publishing this article.

WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

We searched on YouTube using keywords ‘Dushyant chautala BJP aajtak’ and found a video that was uploaded by Aaj Tak on 18 October 2014.

A YouTube keyword search led us to an Aaj Tak bulletin published in 2014.

In 2014 Haryana Legislative Assembly election, the then INLD Chief Dushyant Chautala had then announced a post-poll alliance with BJP to form a government in state, if required. A day before the result was announced on 19 October 2014, he had said that BJP is not their enemy.

In 2019 Haryana election, the main contest is pegged to be between the BJP and Congress. The other parties are JJP and INLD. The results will be out on 24 October, along with those for the Maharashtra elections
