These Images Show Gandhi Family in Vietnam After Manmohan Singh’s Death? No!

The images were available on the internet before the demise of former PM Singh.

A set of images of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra sitting with family members is being shared on the internet, with users linking it to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's death.

What have users said?: A Facebook user shared the images with a caption that loosely translated to, "Rahul Gandhi's family celebrating the mourning of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji in a remote Vietnam (sic)."

Are these claims true?: No. The images could be traced back to 22 December 2024, which predates the death of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh.

• Additionally, the photos are from Delhi and not Vietnam as claimed.

How did we find that out?: On checking the official social media handles of Rahul Gandhi, we found some of the same visuals uploaded on his Instagram handle on 22 December 2024.

• Its caption said, "Family lunch at the iconic Kwality Restaurant. Try the Chole Bhature if you go."

News reports: A report published by The Indian Express mentioned that the Gandhi family was spotted at the Kwality restaurant at the Connaught Place, Delhi.

• Other media organisations such as News18 and India Today, too, published similar reports talking about the Gandhi family's visit to the restaurant.

The report was published on 24 December 2024.

PM Singh's demise: The former Prime Minister passed away at the age of 92 on 26 December 2024. Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paid their respects to the Dr Singh after he passed away.

• This clearly indicated that the images of the Gandhi family predated the death of former PM Singh.

Conclusion: It is evident that an unrelated image is being shared on the internet with users linking it to former PM Manmohan Singh's death.
