A claim is being shared on social media that New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra has passed away following the head injury he suffered during the ongoing Tri-Nation Series - One Day International (ODI) between New Zealand and Pakistan.

This happened during the first ODI on 8 February. Many blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the harsh floodlights, which caused the Ravindra difficulty spotting the ball at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. However, a side has also blamed the cricketer for the incident.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

• The New Zealand team stated that Ravindra was injured and was being treated and recovering from the same. He did not play the second ODI against South Africa.

What we found: At first, we found no reports or official statements to prove the alleged death of Ravindra.

• We then went through the New Zealand cricket team's social media platforms and found their statement on Ravindra's health.

• The statement noted, "Ravindra passed the initial head injury assessment and the laceration, which required stitches, was addressed and treated at the ground. He is otherwise well and will continue to be monitored under his protocols." (sic.)

• NDTV reported that Ravindra could not spot the ball due to the strong flashlights in the stadium. When the ball hit, it caused heavy bleeding, leading him to leave the ground.

• An India Today report stated how New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips described the incident as “terrifying” but asserted to fans that Ravindra was doing well.

Conclusion: A false claim was being shared to falsely claim that Ravindra passed away due to the injury he suffered in the match on 8 February.
