An image showing player rankings for the Men's International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) has gone viral on social media.

• In the image, the names of Indian cricketers such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not listed, despite their accolades.

• Those sharing the image claimed that Sharma and Kohli's names had been removed from the ranking chart.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is misleading.

• While the names of Sharma and Kohli had disappeared from the rankings for a brief period, it was due to a technical glitch.

• Their names were soon reflected on the ICC's website after the mistake was rectified.

What we found: At first, we went onto the ICC website and checked the rankings to verify the authenticity of the viral claim.

• We found that Sharma was ranked second and Kohli was on the fourth position in the charts for batting.

What did news reports say?: A report published by Hindustan Times said that the ICC issued a clarification after names of Kohli and Sharma went missing from the latest batting rankings.

• The absence of their names sparked confusion and speculations among the fans.

• An ICC spokesperson admitted the mistake to the media organisation and said, "There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified."
