A social media post stating that the Nobel Prize committee has 'permanently disqualified' United States President Donald Trump from all future awards has gone viral.

  • The post stated that this alleged decision was taken because Trump renamed the US Department of Defence to the "Department of War."

  • The post featured an image showing a press release purportedly by the Nobel Prize committee, with the logo of the Associated Press (AP).

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

  • This press release is fake as AP has not published any such article on their website or social media.

  • The Nobel Prize committee has also not issued any such statement barring Trump from being nominated for future awards.

What we found: At first, we checked the website for "swiss times," which was listed in the contact section for one Hanz Zeemer, at the top right corner of the viral image.

  • We, also, checked AP's website and social media and did not find any such press release or article like the viral post.

  • Team WebQoof has reached out to the news outlet for their inputs regarding the claim.

Trump and Nobel Peace Prize: President Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Israel and Cambodia, reported the Times of India.

  • However, this only means that Trump has been nominated for the award and does NOT guarantee him winning it, as per the guidelines by the committee.

  • The official list of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize is released 50 years after the prize is awarded, in accordance with the rules of the Nobel Foundation.

  • Additionally, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has 'no say' in submissions that arrives according to the criteria, but can only decide who is actually awarded the prize in October.

Conclusion: No such statement or press release stating that Trump has been permanently disqualified from all future awards has been released by AP or the Nobel Committee.
