An image is going viral on social media allegedly featuring a quote from Mary Anne Trump, the mother of the President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump.

The statement read: "Indeed, he's an idiot with zero common sense and no poor social skills, but he IS my son. I truly hope he doesn't enter politics. He would be a disaster."

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is misleading. We were unable to find any evidence to support that Trump's mother made this statement.

What we found: At first, we checked the year of death of Trump's mother which was August 2000, as per Google.

  • We did not find any credible evidences to prove the alleged viral statement attributed to his mother before August 2000.

  • As per an article by The New York Magazine, between 1999-2000, Trump, had explored the opportunity to run for President under Ross Perot's (American businessman and politician) Reform Party, but, did not go through with it.

  • Articles by Politico (2017) and Vanity Fair (2020) has profiled his mother and written extensively about Trump's relationship with his parents and no where has this statement been mentioned, as well.

  • Furthermore, an article by the New Yorker from 2016 about the mother featured the same image as used in the viral claim. It was titled, "Donald Trump's Immigrant Mother."
