In the recently concluded Modi-Xi summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, 12 October, went plogging on the beach in Mahabalipuram outside Taj Fisherman's Cove Resort and Spa, where he was staying.

A video showing Modi taking a bag full of garbage from a man on a beach and dumping it there is being widely shared on social media, claiming that it is the “real video.”

The caption along with the video reads: “Video of the day. Real video of Indian PM Modi.”

The video shared by the Facebook page of ‘Jammu Kashmir TV’ had received over 44,000 views with over 1,200 shares at the time of publishing this article.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The video is actually from the day when Modi had gone plogging on a beach in Tamil Nadu. Modi can be seen picking up the garbage in the unaltered version of the video.

The video, which is now going viral, has been played in reverse to portray that PM Modi dumped garbage on the beach instead.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

In the actual video that was shared by the official handle of Narendra Modi on Saturday, it can be clearly seen that for the first few seconds, Modi is picking up litter on the beach without any plastic bag.

After a few seconds, at 0:39, you can see a plastic bag in his hand and he continues to collect garbage and put it in the bag. At 02:54 seconds, it can be seen that PM Modi hands over the filled plastic bag to the man dressed in blue.

In the viral video, the footage of the actual video has been played in reverse to falsely suggest that Modi took a garbage-filled bag from the man and then went on to litter the beach.

On 11 October, Modi held the second informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mamallapuram. The two leaders discussed economic issues, trade deficit, and the common challenges the two countries face from terrorism.
