A video of a woman loudly confronting a man at an airport is being circulated on social media platforms with a claim that it shows cab mafia forcing passengers into their cars in Tamil Nadu.

Those sharing the video have captioned it saying, "WTF happening in DMK ruled #TamilNadu. Cab mafias are forcing passengers into their cabs & Police acting as agents of #CabMafia at airports. Look how cab drivers are forcibly dragging women into cabs at airports..."

What is the truth?: The video dates back to March 2025 and is being shared with a false context. It actually showed a personal dispute between two people at the Coimbatore airport.

How did we find that out?: Using the help of Google, we conducted a reverse image search and came across a news report published in Vikatan.

  • It said that when a newly married couple was returning to Coimbatore after visiting to Egypt for their honeymoon, they were confronted by a young woman at the Coimbatore airport.

  • A relative of the man tried to stop the woman, while the couple left in a car. When the relative did not let go of the girl's hand, she slapped him after getting enraged.

  • The report further said that a security guard tried to calm the situation down.

The report was published on 27 March 2025.

  • A report published in Indian Express Tamil said that the woman allegedly hurled abuses at the man and accused him of cheating with another woman.

  • It further said that the Peelamedu police was investigating the matter.

  • Thanthi TV, on their official YouTube channel, had shared a video report on the incident.

  • It was uploaded on 27 March and its title when translated to English said, "Kovai Airport | Husband Wife Fight | Woman scolds husband and destroys Coimbatore Airport."

Tamil Nadu govt's fact-check unit debunks the claim: The official X handle of the Tamil Nadu government's fact-check unit called the viral claim "fake".

  • The post shared on 16 August said, "The video actually shows a personal dispute in which a woman confronted her unfaithful lover at Coimbatore airport in March. It is being misrepresented online with the false claim that taxi drivers at Tamil Nadu airports are harassing passengers."

Conclusion: It is evident that the viral video does not show cab mafia forcing people into their vehicles in Tamil Nadu. The claim is false.
