This Video of MP Anurag Thakur, Jay Shah & Shahid Afridi Is Not From Asia Cup

A video of BJP MP Anurag Thakur, ICC Chairman Jay Shah, and former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi sitting together is going viral with users linking it to the ongoing 2025 Asia Cup tournament.

What did the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium handle shared the clip with a caption that said, "Anurag Thakur, Jay Shah, and Shahid Afridi are in the stadium watching the India Pakistan match like high school friends. But some twitter patriots wants to boycott the game vs Pakistan #INDvPAK #AsiaCup. (sic)"

What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to at least February of this year, when India had clashed against Pakistan in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Hints in the viral video: On carefully going through the video, we noticed that one of the signboards in the background said "ICC Champions Trophy".

• This clearly indicates the possibility of the video being old.

Finding older versions: We conducted a reverse image search using the help of Google Lens and found the same visuals uploaded on a Facebook account named 'Cricket Lovers'.

• The video was uploaded on 26 February with a caption that said, "Jay Shah and shahid khan afridi during pak vs india. (sic)"

The video was shared on 25 February 2025.

News reports: A report published by Asianet English said that Thakur was spotted sitting with Afridi during the India vs Pakistan match in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy tournament at the Dubai International Stadium.

• Sakal News, too, had shared a news report on the video from the same match.

The report was published on 24 February 2025.
