What's the truth?: The video has been given a false context.

  • Although it is from Bangladesh, it shows a clash between to groups from the Muslim community.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video and this led us to reports shared by Jamuna TV, Dhaka Tribune and The Daily Star.

  • It stated that it shows an attack on shrines and not on Hindu temples.

  • It also stated that this happened in Murshidpur Darbar Sharif in Sherpur, Bangladesh on 26 November 2024.

  • We also found a reply to the viral claim shared by a Bangladeshi journalist and fact-checker, Shohanur Rahman, who stated that this claim is false.

  • "Hindutva handles are falsely sharing the incident of an attack on a Muslim shrine as an attack on Hindus," he added.

We also reached out to a reporter from Bangladesh, Shahed Siddique, Head of Input from Independent Television, who confirmed to us that there is no communal angle in this story.

"It was a big clash between two Muslim shrine groups dominating some areas that resulted (in) one killed and many injured. But there were no attack on Hindus," he added.
