Fact-Check: Has Bangladesh Closed Its Airspace For India? No!

The claim is false as Indian airline carriers are still flying over Bangladesh.

Social media users are sharing posts claiming that Bangladesh has closed it airspace for India as it wants "no more compromise" with the country.

Is it true?: No, neither the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh nor the government of the country have made any announcements of this nature as on 15 May 2025.

How do we know?: We ran a keyword search using the term 'Bangladesh closes airspace for India', but did not any find credible reports to support the claim.

  • The only reports we found said that three Bangladesh-bound flights had to be diverted due to regional tensions over India and Pakistan, by The Business Standard and Dhaka Tribune.

There were no credible reports about Bangladesh closing its airspace.

  • We then looked for any official announcements from Bangladesh's authorities related to the claim, but did not find any on the website of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangaldesh.

  • Moreover, as this report was being written, flight tracking website Flightradar24 showed us one Air India Express flight from Guwahati to Bengaluru, flying over Bangladesh.

Air India Express flights are still operation in Bangladesh.

  • An hour after this, we also saw an IndiGo airlines flight using Bangladesh's airspace to travel from Agartala to Delhi.

Indian carriers are flying in Bangladesh's airspace.

  • Additionally, at the time of writing this article, it was possible to book commercial flights to Dhaka.

It is currently possible to book flight tickets to Dhaka.

Conclusion: Bangladesh has not closed its airspace for India.
