Amit Shah’s Claim That Oppn Didn’t Chant ‘Vande Mataram’ Is False
He targeted Mamata Banerjee for not chanting slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram.
On Tuesday, 22 January, BJP President Amit Shah kickstarted his two-day visit to West Bengal from Malda and addressed a public rally. Shah began his speech with the bashing of the Opposition’s mega rally, which was organised in Kolkata by state's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 19 January.
As the BJP chief bashed the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal over various issues, he targeted Banerjee for not chanting slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai, and Vande Mataram.
Shah said that during the Mahagathbandhan rally, none of the leaders present at the Brigade Parade Ground chanted Bharat Mata ki Jai or Vande Mataram.
"In a mahagathbandhan rally, where no one chanted Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram, how will they benefit the country?” asked Amit Shah.
Well, that is where Shah got some facts wrong. As the mega rally and speeches by all the leaders came to an end, the West Bengal chief minister took the stage again to conclude the event with a fierce speech.
The more than three-hour long event ended with Banerjee asking the crowd to join in with her as she chanted the slogans, "Badal do, Dilli mein sarkar badal do (change it, change it, change the government in Delhi). Jai Hind! Jai Hind! Jai Hind!" She also chanted Vande Mataram thrice.
