‘Allah hu Akbar’ Chant at Trump Rally? No, Audio of Clip is Edited
In the video, after Donald Trump’s sudden reaction, his Secret Service agents rush on to the stage and surround him.
CLAIM
A video of Donald Trump getting scared at a rally when an unseen person shouts 'Allah hu Akbar' is doing the rounds on social media over the last few months.
In the video, Trump can be seen addressing a rally when he suddenly stops short and turns around. Immediately, Secret Service agents rush on to the stage and surround him for a while before eventually leaving Trump on the stage.
The caption with the video says: अल्लाह हू अकबर नारे का खौफ देखो.. ट्रंप भाषण दे रहे थे किसी ने पीछे धीरे से बोला "अल्लाह हू अकबर" उसके बाद क्या हुआ.. आप देखिए (See the fear Allah hu Akbar strikes in people..Trump was giving a speech..somebody softly said Allah hu Akbar from behind..watch for yourself)
The video has been viral since August 2018.
The video was also shared on Twitter with the same claim.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The claim is false. Nobody shouted Allah hu Akbar at the rally held by Trump and the clip has been doctored. The disturbance at the event was actually caused by a protester who attempted to rush to the stage.
WHAT WE FOUND
On conducting a reverse search on the video, we came across search results which suggested that the video showed an incident when Trump got scared at a rally and Secret Service rescued him.
Picking up from there, we ran a search for news reports about any such incidents. While we came across multiple news reports, two of them provided the same video as the one which was being shared.
A report by NBC News with the headline 'Secret Service Rushes Stage to Protect Donald Trump at Ohio Rally’ had the same video within a news telecast. It was dated March 2016 and explained that the clip showed a rally held by Trump in Ohio.
A report by ABC News also carried a photo which matched the video. It too said that Secret Service agents surrounded Trump at a rally when a man tried rushing the stage.
The Quint then ran a search for videos of the incident with the headline of the article and came across the original clip.
On listening to the video carefully, we noticed that there was nobody shouting 'Allah hu Akbar' at the rally.
We also checked the same video uploaded by ABC News.
This one too had no sign of anyone shouting 'Allah hu Akbar'. What does happen is that the crowd erupts in screams suddenly and Trump is startled, immediately causing his Secret Service agents to rush onto the stage.
A longer version of the video, uploaded by CNN shows the incident partially and the security rushing towards someone on the ground. Here too, no shout of ‘Allah hu Akbar’ is heard.
Moreover, no news reports carried any mention of a man shouting 'Allah hu Akbar' at the event.
According to the news reports, what had actually happened was that a disturbance had broken out after a man at the event "attempted to breach the secure buffer." He was removed rapidly from the area. NBC reported that the suspect was identified as Thomas Dimassimo, 32, and was charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic.
Dimassimo had jumped the bike racks and tried to climb onto the stage, but was stopped by Secret Service stationed there, according to the report.
Therefore, Trump's reaction in the video did not come because of someone shouting 'Allah hu Akbar' but because of a person who tried to rush the stage at Trump's rally. The audio in the clip being shared has been edited to make it seem so.
