Amid the ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' by the Leader of the Opposition, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in Bihar, a video showing a huge crowd is being shared on social media.

The claim: Those sharing the video claimed that the huge crowd came to see Gandhi.

About the movement: This 'yatra' started from Sasaram in Rohtas district of Bihar on 17 August. It aims to emphasise the supposed violation of individuals' voting rights via the special intensive revision (SIR) of the state's electoral lists.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as this video is from 2022, showing Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan's Dausa.

What we found: At first, we divided the video into multiple screenshots and ran a Google reverse image search and found that the viral video was posted on YouTube on 16 December 2022.

  • The video was titled, ‘Gandhi tiraya dausa’. Dausa is located in the state of Rajasthan.

  • 2022 was the year when Gandhi was on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, and incidentally, it passed through this area as well.

  • We found another post featuring the same viral video on Facebook uploaded on 18 December 2022. The Facebook post also noted that the video was from Dausa.

Google Maps confirmation: We also checked the video's location on Google Maps and found that the incident was from Dausa and not Bihar, as claimed.

Here are the similarities between the Google map locations and the viral video.

  • We looked for news reports around this date to check whether a Bharat Jodo Yatra rally was taken out in Dausa and found coverage by the India TV Times of India and India Today from December 2022.

  • We also found some posts on X featuring the same video from 2022. You can watch some of them here and here.

Conclusion: An old video from Rajasthan of Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra from 2022 falsely viral as one from his recent program of the Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
