The Election Commission on Tuesday ordered repoll in 38 polling stations of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency which witnessed large-scale violence during the by-election on Sunday.

In a letter to the state Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission said it is ordering repoll based on the reports of the returning officers and observers.

The repoll will be held on 13 April.

Eight people were killed and several others were injured in security forces’ firing in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency on Sunday, which recorded an abysmally low voter turnout during bypolls.

In some place, the polling staff and security forces were even forced to abandon the booths when protests intensified.
