Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav announced their alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 21 February.

Of the 80 seats in the state, SP will contest from 37 seats while the BSP will contest from 38 seats.

Though no pre-poll alliance has been struck with the Congress, the Gandhi family strongholds of Amethi and Raebareli have been left untouched, as was promised by Mayawati earlier.

Three more seats have been left out, which are expected to go to Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal.

The Congress had earlier said that it will contest in all 80 seats from Uttar Pradesh.
