Even as speculation raged about Rahul Gandhi taking over as the new Congress president, the party remained tightlipped.
However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members were quick to respond with much criticism for the leader.
Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday said Gandhi’s elevation would actually be good for the BJP.
Irani was not the only one to take a dig at the probability of Gandhi becoming Congress chief.
Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said any such development will only strengthen the BJP’s resolve for a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’.
Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma too joined the club, calling Congress a “sinking ship.” Sharma, however, added that the decision is an internal matter of the party.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra dubbed the decision as a clear indicator of propagating ‘dynasty politics’, also cleverly referring to Sonia Gandhi’s ‘shehenshah’ remark on Modi.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain also chipped in with his views.
“Though it’s an internal matter of the Congress, but if such a decision is taken, the country will move ahead in the direction of a Congress-free India,” he told the media.
