Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat. He inaugurated a number of projects during his visit. On Sunday, he visited his childhood school in his hometown of Vadnagar and also addressed a public meeting – both of which he did for the first time since becoming the Prime Minister in 2014.
While addressing a rally in Bharuch, PM Narendra Modi lauded the government for building a barrage over Narmada river.
Laying the foundation stone for the barrage, he said that it will save people “money, time and petrol”. The barrage, he said, will connect South Gujarat with Bharuch.
He also added that “political will” helped the government build the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Taking a dig at the Opposition by saying that no “matter how many thieves come and go, truth and sincerity will win.”
PM Modi reached Bharuch, where he laid the foundation stone of a barrage over the Narmada River. He also flagged off the Antyodaya Express.
After visiting the medical college GMERS, PM Modi spoke about the need for accessible and affordable healthcare for the poor.
PM Modi spoke about the Chinese scholar Xuanzang, who “visited my village in India and then in China he visited President Xi's village.”
In his maiden address at his hometown since becoming PM, Narendra Modi stated that he has become all that he is due to Vadnagar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Intensified Mission Indradhanush”, an immunisation program in Vadnagar.
The PM inaugurated the GMERS Medical College and dedicated it to the nation. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Union Minister JP Nadda were also present at the event.
The PM also interacted with the students of the medical college.
On his maiden visit to his hometown since taking office, PM Modi visited his school and then offered prayers at Hatkeshwar Temple.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's began his roadshow in his hometown Vadnagar amid loud cheers by the crowd.
There were chants of "Modi-Modi" and flowers were showered on him at several places along the route of the roadshow.
The locals told mediapersons it was a matter of great pride that the "son of the soil" was the prime minister and was visiting the town after a long time.
On day 2 of his Gujarat visit, PM Modi will visit his hometown of Vadnagar for the first time since taking office and address a gathering there.
He will also the lay the foundation stone in Bharuch for Bhadbhut Barrage, to be built over the Narmada River.
Speaking at IIT Gandhinagar, PM Modi emphasized on the need for India to become digital literate.
Modi also said that India needs to become a world leader in education.
Speaking in Dwarka, Mod hailed the measures announced by Arun Jaitley yesterday to ease the burden of GST, especially on small businesses and exporters.
He further stated that the government “does not want the country’s business class to get caught in red-tapism.”
After his visit to the Dwarka temple, PM Modi headed to the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of a bridge between Okha and Beyt Dwarka. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, among others, attended the ceremony.
Narendra Modi arrived in Dwarka, where he began his trip with a visit to Dwarkadheesh Temple.
Modi’s two-day trip will begin with a visit to Dwarkadheesh Temple on Saturday morning.
At Dwarka, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for four-lane cable stayed signature bridge between Okha and Beyt Dwarka to be built at a cost of Rs 962.42 crore. Other projects for which foundation stones will be laid include four-laning of 116.24 kms of Porbandar-Dwarka section of NH-51 and four-laning of 93.56 km of Gadu-Porbandar section of NH-51.
From Dwarka, Modi will go to Hirasar in Rajkot district where he will lay the foundation stone for a greenfield airport, 20 km from Rajkot city.
In Gandhinagar, the Prime Minister will also launch the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan.
On Sunday, Modi will visit Vadnagar and Bharuch. At Bharuch, he will flag off the Antyodaya Express between Udhna (Surat, Gujarat), and Jaynagar (Bihar), and inaugurate various plants of Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Corporation.
He will also address a public meeting there before returning to Delhi.

On Sunday morning, he will visit Vadnagar, his birthplace in Mehasana district where he grew up. There is a lot of excitement in Vadnagar as well as nearby villages such as Badarpur and Molipur over the visit, the prime minister's elder brother Somabhai Modi told PTI.
Ahead of the prime minister's visit, the administration is busy working on roads and ensuring cleanliness. Fire engines have also been deployed inside the railway station for cleaning of trees on its premises.
