Arunachal Governor JP Rajkhowa Sacked by Home Ministry

Earlier, Jyoti Prakash Rajkhowa was asked to step down from his post due to his deteriorating health.

President Pranab Mukherjee removed Arunachal Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa from his post, Rashtrapati Bhavan communicated on Monday.

After the sacking, Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan has been put in charge of the state, in addition to Meghalaya, until further arrangements for Arunachal Pradesh Governor’s office are made, revealed the Rashtrapati Bhavan communique.

The President has directed that JP Rajkhowa shall cease to hold the office of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and has appointed V Shanmuganathan, Governor of Meghalaya, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh are made.

Earlier, Jyoti Prakash Rajkhowa was asked to step down from his post due to his health condition. A message regarding the development was sent to Rajkhowa on 29 August.

However, Rajkhowa had expressed his wish of not stepping down, even after a junior minister and a Home Ministry official had approached him to tender his resignation.
