Two Arrested for Depositing Fake Notes

Two persons were arrested while the third one managed to flee after Bank Manager of Chhatikara branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce informed the police about the trio who tried to deposit fake currency notes worth Rs 36,000 here.

"Two members have been arrested while hunt for third is on," SP City Ashok Kumar Singh said, adding they would also try to find out if some gang is operating.

"On finding 36 fake notes of Rs 1,000 each, in the bundle of one lakh nine thousand brought by Ramveer for depositing in the bank, I called the police and handed them over to police," Shashi Kant Gaur, manager, OBC- Chhatikara said. Gaur has also registered an FIR with the police.

The police could nab Ramveer and Ranveer while Sabir managed to dodge the police.

One Dies in Stampede

One person died in a stampede outside a branch of SBI in Deoria.

“Demonetisation is strong step for the economy, yes people did face some problems but now situation is improving,” Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh said.

However, Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi disagreed with Singh. Rahul Gandhi said the currency ban “hurt the economy in an unimaginable way, especially the fishermen, daily wage labourers and farmers.”

Family of a senior citizen who allegedly died due to suffocation at a queue in a bank moved Supreme Court seeking a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the Union government.

Roopa Ganguly Called Long Queues “Political Conspiracy”

Member of BJP and former TV actress, Roopa Ganguly claimed that political parties had planted their party workers in long queues outside ATMs and banks.

<i>Ye jo lambi lines thi in mein aadhe toh political parties ke planted log the.</i> (Half the people in the long queues were planted by other political parties). The lines have vanished after the banks started using indelible ink.

Unidentified gunmen looted Rs 12 lakhs from the Charari Sharif branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Budgam. Further details are awaited.

MP CM Shivraj Chouhan Critisises Didi

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and member of BJP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticised Mamata Banerjee for creating a ruckus about demonetisation just for the sake of it.

<i>Janta ki pulse bhi ye nahi pechaante, poore desh ne iska swagat kiya hai.</i> (She doesn’t understand what the people want, the whole country welcomed this move (demonetisation) .This is called opposing and criticising just for the sake of it.

After multiple adjournments, the Rajya Sabha reconvened at 3 pm only to be swiftly adjourned amid slogans of “Narendra Modi chor hai”.

The House was adjourned for the day within minutes.

Mamata Banerjee Says Govt is Confused

Chief Minister of west Bengal, Mamata Banerjee will be travelling to Delhi to protest against the government’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and 1000 currency.

She said, “Kaala dhan aur bhi kaala hua. White money aam janta se chheen ke liya. (Black money is even more black and the people’s white money was taken away)”

The lower middle class, traders, daily wagers, housewives are the worst sufferers. Instead of announcing new changes on a daily basis, Centre must come up with a proper plan of action. Centre has ‘rolled back’ about 15 decisions since announcement on 8 November. This means they are confused. I’m going to Delhi tomorrow (Tuesday). I will be on the road again. We are ready to join any political programme.&nbsp;

Lok Sabha Adjourned for the Day

Lok Sabha was reconvened at 2 pm and was quickly adjourned for the day as the House opened the session with slogans and uproar.

However, Rajya Sabha returned after an hour and a half, demanding a statement on the Kanpur derailment tragedy from Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Although, Prabhu remained absent from the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State, Railway, Rajen Gohain, made a statement.

The Opposition raised slogans against Prabhu’s absence and called the government’s approach towards the tragedy “casual”.

Slogans of “Jan Virodhi Narendra Modi, Hosh Mai Ao, Hosh Mai Ao” and Gali gali mai shor hai, Narendra Modi chor hai” were raised in the higher House. The House was adjourned till 3 pm.

PM Modi Meets Ministers to Discuss Demonetisation

After attending Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s meeting with the senior ministers, Odisha Chief Minster Naveen Patnaik said:

I have raised a few issues on demonitisation. The district central co-operative banks should be allowed to exchange notes. Tribals must be exempted from submission of PAN on deposit of more than Rs 50,000.

Defending PM Modi and his decision, Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS, PMO said:

Decisions like this are always taken in such a manner, secrecy is maintained. It was not in haste.

Derek O’Brien Tweets Names of People Who Died Due to Demonetisation

As deputy-Chairman of Rajya Sabha PJ Kurien asked for authenticity of the number of people who have died as result of demonetisation, Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Derek O’Brien tweeted a list of 55 people which he claims have died due to the move.

The source of this information was not mentioned in the tweet which states the name, age and cause of the person’s death.

The members are demanding an obituary for the people who lost their lives after Rs 500 and 1000 notes were demonetised.

Suresh Prabhu’s Voice Drowns Amid Slogans in LS

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s statement about the Kanpur tragedy was completely drowned out by the slogans raised by the members of the Opposition as the Speaker called for members to lay their papers on the table.

A forensic enquiry has been ordered to look into all possible angles. The guilty will be given strict punishment.

The Surrogacy Bill, 2016 was introduced by Health Minister JP Nadda and will be discussed in the House. The Bill was introduced before the House was adjourned for the second time, to be reconvened at 2 pm.

BSP supremo Mayawati slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the effects of demonetisation on the poor, saying PM Modi is happy when the rich are happy..

Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Chaos

Although Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had refused to adjourn the Lok Sabha after continuos furore by the Opposition, the question hour ended with an adjournment.

The questions raised by the members were barely audible as the slogans against demonetisation drowned the members’ question.

Multiple Adjournments in RS Amid Sloganeering

Opposition members return to the House amid furore against demonetisation and a demand for discussion on Kanpur tragedy.

Even as deputy-Chairman PJ Kurien demands authenticity of the number of the deceased, the members raised slogans of “we want discussion”.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon within minutes after the House was reconvened after the first adjournment.

Rajya Sabha Adjourned

Rajya Sabha was adjourned within the first half an hour amid uproar after Opposition members entered the well before deputy-Chairman PJ Kurien adjourned the House till 11:30 am.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley criticised the protesting Opposition members saying:

The Opposition is not ready for a debate, they are trying new tactics everyday to disrupt the Parliament proceedings.

Uproar in Both Houses

Rajya Sabha condoles the loss of life of over 130 people as 14 coaches of Indore-Patna Express derailed on Sunday in Kanpur region.

Vice President and Chairman Hamid Ansari asked the House to observe two minutes of silence.

Amid chaos Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting senior ministers in his chamber in Parliament.

Demonetisation to Dominate Parliament

On the fourth day of the winter session on Saturday, 19 November, both the Houses were adjourned amid furore as Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to appear.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, under fire for comparing demonetisation deaths to deaths in the Uri attack, slammed Modi for choosing to appear at the Coldplay concert instead of the Parliament.

Suresh Prabhu to Address Parliament Over Kanpur Derailment Tragedy

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will address the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and make a statement about the derailment tragedy that has claimed at least 133 lives.

Fourteen coaches of 19321 Indore-Rajendranagar Patna Express derailed near Pukharayan district of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, early on Sunday morning.

Mental Health Care and Surrogacy Bills to be Introduced

Two major bills scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday are:

The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016
The Mental Healthcare Bill, 2016

Nadda will also bring the Bill, in Rajya Sabha, to control and spread and uphold human rights of those affected by HIV/AIDS.
