Today, Mamata Banerjee turns 64, hardly a ripe old age for an Indian politician of her stature. But ‘Didi’ started her career young, and spent decades fighting what must have seemed like an unbeatable CPI(M)-led government in West Bengal.

She did succeed, becoming the Chief Minister of West Bengal in 2011.
