In the ongoing tug of war for the AIADMK party symbol, the O Panneerselvam camp on Friday submitted a petition to the Election Commission requesting allotment of the ‘twin leaf’ to it for the upcoming RK Nagar bypoll.

The move comes just a day after a delegation from the VK Sasikala camp led by party leader and Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai submitted a memorandum to the EC requesting it “not to entertain” the breakaway faction, which has staked claim to the AIADMK symbol.

According to a source in the OPS camp, the EC has sought supporting documents from it before 20 March.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had met Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi on Wednesday over the issue.

The OPS camp had on Thursday named E Madhusudhanan, a veteran AIADMK leader, as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll in RK Nagar, which was represented by J Jayalalithaa.
