Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the northeastern Indian states that Delhi is focused on reducing the isolation of northeastern states through the ambitious Act East Policy, reports The Indian Express.

Modi addressed a gathering of Chief Ministers and Governors of eight states of north- east India during the plenary meeting of North East Council (NEC).

The government has been focusing on development of the region through its proactive Act East Policy. As part of this policy, we are focusing on reducing isolation of the region by improving all-round connectivity through road, railway, telecom, power and waterways sectors.

He asked the delegation to make sure that the region takes full advantage of the fact that it is the country’s major gateway to southeast Asia.
