Amid deadlock over the government formation in Maharashtra, Sanjay Raut on Monday, 11 November said that the BJP was “arrogant” enough to sit in the Opposition but wasn’t willing to honour promises made before the Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP on Sunday refused to stake claim to the government in the state, following which Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari invited Shiv Sena to indicate their willingness to form the government in the state.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant on Monday announced his resignation as Union Minister (Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises).

NCP-Backed MLA Extends Support to Sena
Shankarrao Gadakh, an NCP-backed Independent MLA in Maharashtra, on Monday offered support to the Shiv Sena, which is pushing for an equal share in power with ally BJP in the next government.
The MLA from Nevasa in Ahmedanagar district made the announcement after meeting Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence.
Gadakh's father Yashwantrao was a former NCP leader.
“I represent a rural area where problems are more complicated. If I have to solve people's issues, it is better to stay with the party which is going to form the government. Hence, I visited Mumbai today and extended support to the Sena,” he said.
'Will Form Government Comfortably': BJP
The BJP in Maharashtra on Monday said it has the support of 15 Independent MLAs and asserted the party will “comfortably” form the next government taking the Shiv Sena along with it.
Besides its own 105 MLAs, the BJP has the support of 15 Independent MLAs, claimed party spokesperson Shweta Shalini.
“There were some BJP (ticket) aspirants who got elected as independent MLAs. They have extended their support to the BJP,” she told PTI.
“I believe the BJP will form the next government comfortably taking the Shiv Sena along,” Shalini said.
'No Dushyant Here Whose Father is in Jail': Sanjay Raut
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday, 29 October quipped, in an attack on the BJP and its alliance partner JJP’s Dushyant Chautala in Haryana, “There is no Dushyant here whose father is in jail.”
“There is no Dushyant here whose father is in jail. Here, it's us who do politics of 'dharma and satya', Sharad ji who created an environment against BJP and Congress will never go with BJP,” he added.
‘No Decision by Amit Shah on CM Post Going to Shiv Sena’: Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that no formula has been decided yet on giving the CM post to Shiv Sena.
“Our party president has confirmed that nothing has been decided on CM post going to Shiv Sena. No formula is decided yet,” he said.
“I assure that this will be a BJP led government,” he added, as quoted by ANI.
45 MLAs in Touch with Fadnavis, Will Convince Uddhav: BJP MP
BJP MP from Maharashtra Sanjay Kakde told ANI that 45 newly elected Sena MLAs are in touch with Devendra Fadnavis and will convince Uddhav Thackeray to form alliance with the BJP.
“Fourty five newly elected MLAs in Shiv Sena are in touch with Chief Minister and want alliance government to be formed. I think few of these 45 MLAs will convince Uddhav Thackeray and form government with Devendra Fadnavis as CM. I don't think there is any other option,” he said.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that he has no knowledge of any discussion of a rotational chief minister since the negotiations before the Lok Sabha polls happened only between Amit Shah and Uddhav Thackeray.

Sena Hits Back with CM's 'Role-Sharing' Clip
On a day when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied the BJP ever promising to share the chief minister's post with ally Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party came up with an old video of the CM in which he purportedly talked about equal sharing of posts and responsibilities in the state government.
Seeking to rebut the CM's claims, the Sena has released a video clip on social media of his press conference dated 18 February this year.
The clip with a caption "Jara Yaad karo Jabani" (Remember the assurance) was put out by Harshal Pradhan, a close aide of Uddhav Thackeray.
"We have decided equal sharing of posts and responsibilities once we come to power again," Fadnavis is quoted as saying in Marathi at the presser to announce tie-up for (Lok Sabha) elections.

Hours after Devendra Fadnavis denied that the Shiv Sena was assured post of the CM as part of a power-sharing "formula", Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, 29 October, cancelled his party's meeting with the BJP on formation of the next government.

Amid the stalemate over the government formation in Maharashtra, a Marathi daily, inclined towards the RSS, likened Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut to a clown and 'Betaal', the mythological ghost who challenged King Vikramaditya with his witty riddles.
Coming down heavily on Raut, Tarun Bharat, the Nagpur-based publication believed to be close to the Sangh and its political extension, the BJP, said he was hurting the chances of BJP-Sena alliance to come to power in Maharashtra.
Without naming Raut, it called him a “clown” and said “his attempt to portray a picture that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is isolated in the BJP is nothing but pure entertainment,” reported PTI.

Maha Court Issues Notice to Fadnavis in Poll Affidavit Case
A Nagpur court has issued notice to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on a plea alleging non-disclosure of two criminal cases by him in an election affidavit.
The development came after the Supreme Court, on 1 October, directed the magistrate's court to go ahead with the application filed by city-based lawyer Satish Uke seeking initiation of criminal proceedings against Fadnavis in the matter.
The magistrate's court said the case would be held as a summary criminal case, and issued notice to Fadnavis.
“Process (notice) is issued against accused (Fadnavis) for offence punishable under section 125A of Representation of People Act, 1951,” said magistrate SD Mehta said in the order, reported PTI.

Maharashtra Congress MLAs to Meet Amid Impasse
As the impasse over government formation continued in Maharashtra, the Congress has convened a meeting of its newly-elected MLAs on Friday amid speculation that they may be shifted to Jaipur.
State Congress president Balasaheb Thorat and other senior leaders will be present at the meeting which will take place around 10.30 am, party sources said.
They said all the 44 Congress MLAs will attend the meet, which is expected to discuss the prevailing political situation in Maharashtra where there is no sign of the new government even two weeks after declaration of polls results.
The party is exercising caution due to the possibility of defection from its legislative wing, the sources said.
Speculation is rife that the Congress legislators may be shifted to Jaipur, but the sources did not confirm any such move.
Rs 25-50 Crores Being Offered to MLAs: Congress
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Friday alleged that sums of "Rs 25 crore to Rs 50 crore" were being offered to MLAs to switch sides in Maharashtra.
He claimed Congress MLAs, too, have been contacted over the phone with such offers.
The Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly said the Shiv Sena has claimed one of its MLAs was offered Rs 50 crore to switch sides.
"Our MLAs are also being contacted. Attempts are being made to lure away MLAs with offers of Rs 25 to Rs 50 crore," he alleged while talking to reporters.
"We have told our MLAs to record such calls so that people of the state know about them," he said.
BJP Should Approach Sena Only on the Issue of CM: Raut
The BJP should approach the Shiv Sena only if it agrees to share the chief minister's post with the junior saffron ally in Maharashtra, senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday.
Talking to reporters, he said the BJP should not misuse the provision of "caretaker" government and remain in power in Maharashtra, where there is an impasse over the next dispensation.
To a question on Union minister and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari's trip to Mumbai and possibility of him visiting 'Matoshree' (the residence of Thackerays) to break the logam over government formation, Raut said the BJP should approach the Sena only if it is willing to share the CM post.

Gadkari's visit triggered speculation in political circles that he may step in to break the fortnight-long BJP- Sena logjam over sharing the chief minister's post, which is delaying government formation in the state.

Union minister and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari on Friday said there had been no deal between his party and the Shiv Sena over equal distribution of portfolios, including sharing the post of chief minister, PTI reported.
The former BJP president had first indicated he would not intervene to break the deadlock between his party and the Shiv Sena over sharing power in Maharashtra.
However, speaking to reporters he said, "As per my information, there was no deal between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over equal sharing of portfolios in Maharashtra,” he said.

Speaking to the media after the meeting at Pawar's residence ‘Silver Oak’, state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat said his party and NCP had not taken any decision about their strategy.
“All eyes are now on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari,” he said, adding that the governor should follow the set precedents in the current situation, reported PTI.

Maharashtra Governor Invites BJP to Form Government
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday evening asked the BJP, the single largest party in the state, to "indicate willingness and ability" to form government.
The BJP's core committee will meet on Sunday and decide the future course of action, party leader Chandrakant Patil said. Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni had met Governor Koshyari at Raj Bhavan earlier in the day, sources said.
"We have just received the letter from the governor," Chandrakant Patil, who is state BJP president, told PTI, "Our core committee will meet tomorrow and discuss the future course of action," he added.
"Elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly were held on October 21 and the results were declared on October 24. However, despite the passage of 15 days, no single party or alliance of parties has come forward to form the government," the statement from Raj Bhavan said.
"The Governor has therefore decided to explore the possibility of formation of Government and today asked the leader of the elected members of the single largest party, that is BJP, to convey its willingness and ability to form the government," it further said.
NCP Will Vote Against BJP During Floor Test: Malik
The NCP on Saturday said the governor's decision has come late, and it would vote against the BJP if there is a floor test.
"The Governor has initiated the process late. He should have done it earlier," Malik said in his reaction.
The governor should ensure that the BJP has the numbers to prove its majority, and also see that there is no horse-trading if the BJP decides to take a floor test, the NCP spokesperson said.
"The NCP will vote against the BJP in case it comes to floor test. The NCP will think of an alternative if the Shiv Sena votes against the BJP on the floor of the House and the government collapses," the Mumbai NCP chief added.
Shiv Sena Welcomes Governor's Decision
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Saturday that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari's decision to ask the BJP to indicate its willingness to form government was a welcome step.
The decision follows laid-down procedure and the Shiv Sena welcomes it, Raut told PTI.
"At least the governor has begun the process of exploring for government formation. The BJP is the single largest party and the rightful claimant to form government first," Raut said.

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar on Sunday, 10 November, after BJP Core Committee meeting at the residence of Devendra Fadnavis said that the party will meet at 4pm again on Sunday to take a decision on Governor’s invitation.
He said, “Governor has invited BJP to form the government because we are the single largest party. We will meet at 4 pm again today and take the decision on governor's invitation,” ANI reported.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the party has accepted the public mandate to it to sit in the opposition in Maharashtra.
He said, “People have given the mandate that we have to sit in the opposition and we accept it. Now it is for the party high command to take a decision, we have left it on the party's high command,” reported PTI.

“Congress does not want President's rule in Maharashtra,” said Ashok Chavan, the President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
He added, “Congress MLAs will seek advice of the party high-command on its future political stand in Maharashtra. I am of the view of a stable government in Maharashtra,” reported PTI.
Chavan has however said that nothing has been decided yet and there are discussing their options.

Rajasthan Congress president Sachin Pilot said that the BJP has dishonoured the mandate of the people of Maharashtra by its failure to form government in the state even after 15 days of the elections result.
Pilot, who visited Jodhpur today, said the BJP had not been given the mandate for politicking.
“Despite a pre-poll alliance with the Shiv Sena, the BJP has not been able to form the government in Maharashtra and by doing so, the party has dishonoured the mandate of the people of the state,” he said, reported PTI.
