Uniform System of Reservation for the Underprivileged Classes

A Raja from CPI(M) asked the government to implement the Rohith Act to curb discrimination of the Dalit and other underprivileged classes in educational institutions in the Rajya Sabha.

He also criticised the lack of reservation in jobs in the private sector.

BJP MP Mahant Shambhuprasad Tundiya from Gujarat urged the government to not extend reservations any further because “discrimination is not visible in other religions like Buddhism and Christianity as it is in Hinduism.”

Thawaar Chand Gehlot, Minister Social Justice and Empowerment in his reply also that “discrimination is not seen in cases of religious conversion.”

Many MPs also pointed out that the status of SC/ST is lost often when people migrate from one state to the other due to the differing definitions of SC/ST in different states, and asked the government to ensure the statushood of underprivileged class and caste be given more uniformly in all Indian states.

Responding to Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s remark that she had nothing to fear with respect to the AgustaWestland case, BJP chief Amit Shah said that the BJP, on the other hand, was afraid of the Constitution.

You say that you are not afraid of anything. We in the BJP fear the Constitution, rule of law and societal norms. Who was in power when bribe was given and taken? UPA was so they should clarify now. UPA was the only unique government whose scams came out in open when they were in power, and their corrupt practices keep getting exposed, even two years after they’ve fallen out of power.

Pathankot in the Rajya Sabha

The Ministry of External Ministry’s junior minister, VK Singh said that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) from Pakistan has returned.

The JIT has gone back, according to information conveyed to Pakistan Foreign Secretary, when he unofficially met our Foreign Secretary on a courtesy visit. It was conveyed that they will have to look into our NIA visiting Pakistan, and now he has to return, take a formal view and convey it to us.
