After announcing his entry into Tamil Nadu politics in front of a huge audience in Madurai on Wednesday 21 February, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan also unfurled the official website of his party, the ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’.

In a video shared on his party’s Youtube Channel, Haasan urges people to sign up for his party and ‘come to the field’ to change the political landscape of the south Indian state. However, in an unconventional way, the Ulaganayagan gives a disclaimer at the start of the video, in Tamil, saying that his address might not be for everyone.

If you are happy and content in Tamil Nadu, then this video is not for you. If you believe the politics and governance of this country has no inherent problems, this video was not shot for you . Then you can go.

The name of Haasan’s party translates to the ‘Centre for People’s Justice’. The party’s symbol depicts six hands joining together, with shades of red over three hands, and the rest in white, with a star in the center, surrounded by a black star-like background.

“The six hands stand for the six states,” Haasan had said during his party launch event.

It is widely speculated that the actor is including the union territory of Puducherry along with the five southern states: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
