(Correction: The Quint had previously reported that the ABVP lost the Gujarat Central University election by a big margin on 25 November. The story is now updated to reflect that the student's party actually won two out of the five seats that they contested and continued with five additional seats unopposed. The error is regretted.)

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won two out of the five seats in the Gujarat Central University elections held on Sunday and continued to hold five additional seats for which there were no opposing candidates. With seven out of 10 seats, ABVP will dominate the students' council.

In a statement put out by ABVP, the student body clarified their position in the University elections

The School of Social Sciences elected independent candidate Dileep Kumar and Arvind, another independent candidate, emerged victorious from School of International Studies.

Gujarat Central University doesn’t have a students’ union as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee, but has a student council in its place.

ABVP’s performance in the Gujarat Central University comes on the heels of the student party’s loss in Varanasi, where it lost the election for the president's post at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. In Delhi, ABVP also suffered a huge loss in student elections in Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University.
