Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced that Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu and ex-Akali MLA Pargat Singh will formally join Congress on 28 November.

Amarinder Singh tweeted out the news.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Pargat Singh had met Amarinder Singh, the Congress’ Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, earlier in the day in Delhi, according to ANI.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu, ex-BJP MLA from Punjab, had resigned from the party on 8 October, days after her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu did so.

Pargat Singh is a former hockey player and was formerly associated with the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. He represents Jalandhar Cantt constituency in the state assembly.

The announcement came amid speculation that Navjot Singh Sidhu would also join the party in the coming days.

Amarinder Singh had earlier met Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and tendered his resignation from the House on Wednesday.

He submitted his resignation in protest against the "injustice" meted out to the people of Punjab following the 10 November Supreme Court verdict on the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal water sharing agreement which, he and most other state leaders have been opposing.
