Centre Gets Time Till 6 May to Decide on Uttarakhand Floor Test
Attorney General told SC the Centre is seriously considering the suggestion to hold a floor test in the state.
The Supreme Court has given the Centre two more days to respond to its suggestion about the feasibility of holding a floor test in the Uttarakhand Assembly, under the court’s supervision.
A bench comprising of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh has posted the matter for hearing on Friday, 6 May.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the apex court that the Centre is seriously considering the suggestion to hold a floor test in the state assembly.
The court was hearing the Centre’s appeal challenging the Uttarakhand high court’s 21 April ruling quashing President’s Rule in the state. A day later, the apex court had stayed that order, after the Centre assured the court that no action will be taken to revoke President’s Rule in the state to allow the formation of a new government.
On 27 April, the stay was further extended due to which the floor test scheduled to be held on 29 April was called off and President’s Rule continued in the state.
The court had also framed seven questions of law pertaining to the imposition of President’s Rule in the state which will be taken up at the next hearing.
The case will be heard next on 6 May.
