Arunachal Governor Rajkhowa Asked to Resign on ‘Health Grounds’
A source-based report claims that a junior minister and senior Home Ministry officer have asked Rajkhowa to resign.
Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Jyoti Prakash Rajkhowa was asked to step down from his post due to his health condition, reports The Indian Express.
Citing state government sources, the report claims that a private person from Guwahati, Assam was sent to Rajkhowa on 29 August to convey the message.
Rajkhowa does not wish to step down, even though a junior minister and a Home Ministry official has approached him to tender his resignation.
Rajkhowa, who returned to Itanagar after undergoing a surgery in the national capital, approached Home Minister Rajnath Singh to seek clarification on the said request of the person from Guwahati, a source close to Rajkhowa said.
While people close to Rajkhowa have assured that Rajnath Singh remains unaware of any such requests, a senior MHA official and a junior minister have approached him after 29 August, asking him to resign.
Rajkhowa found himself in soup after the Supreme Court declared his decision to impose President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh “unconstitutional”.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was accused of strong-arming opposition party Congress in a number of states where they maintain a stronghold.
By rule, Rajkhowa is entitled to five years in office and can be ousted if the President of India orders it.
