Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Arun Jaitley at his residence on Wednesday, 29 May to ask him to reconsider his earlier decision of opting out of the new government, citing health issues, ANI reported quoting sources.

Citing serious health challenges and thanking Narendra Modi, the incumbent Finance Minister Arun Jaitley formally wrote to the Prime Minister to excuse him from any responsibility in the new government.

In the four-paragraph letter, Jaitley said he had orally informed Modi about his desire not to be a part of the new BJP government to enable him to concentrate on treatment and heal

In the letter, he wrote, “I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health and, therefore, not be a part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new Government.”

The swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled to be held on 30 May.
