Kiran Bedi As Hitler? Political Poster ‘In Poor Taste’, She Says
The poster was allegedly made by the Congress, protesting against the swearing-in of 3 MLAs nominated by Centre.
Bringing the political tussle in Puducherry to the forefront, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi tweeted out a poster allegedly made by the Congress, depicting her as 'Adolf Hitler', the Nazi dictator, late on Thursday night.
According to the tweet, the poster was allegedly made as part of the Congress' 'Condemnation Agitation against the Central government and the Lt Governor for the process of nominating MLAs'.
Bedi called the poster “seriously objectionable,” adding that nobody has the right to “spoil the image of an Office.”
“These are in real poor taste. They are an attempt at lowering the status of the office of the Lt Governor. Persons can be disliked, but sanctity of the status of Lt Governor office must not be compromised. Respectful means of protest can be found without disrespecting constitutional offices,” Bedi tells The Quint.
One of the posters also showed Bedi being chased away, while in another one, she was depicted as goddess Kali.
The Congress-led Puducherry government and Bedi have been at loggerheads for quite some time now.
The Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee was protesting the swearing-in of three MLAs nominated by the Centre, which was allegedly undertaken "without adhering to democratic procedures".
Led by Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanswamy, the Congress MLAs and party workers took part in the demonstration which was held at Thavalapakkam in Puducherry.
Speaking to the media, government whip RKR Anandaraman told reporters that the protest was called to urge the Centre to take action against Lt Governor Kiran Bedi for “functioning undemocratically and taking a negative stand in implementing various welfare schemes evolved by the territorial government”.
The party had earlier called for a bandh and a fast for the ouster of Bedi on 7 July.
