The fourth phase of the Bihar elections is scheduled for 1 November. Polling will be held in 55 out of the 243 seats. Of the 776 candidates in the fray, there are only seven per cent women contesting elections.

This is a crucial phase for both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the alliance between JD(U), RJD and Congress. In the Lok Sabha election (2014), the NDA had won 53 of the 55 assembly seats.

One-third of the 253 candidates have criminal cases against them, and of that, 201 are accused of serious crimes. Amongst political parties, the Janata dal United (JDU) has the maximum candidates with criminal charges (71 per cent). Among wealthy candidates, LJP and JD(U) have the highest percentage of crorepati candidates.

The Quint looks up some stats from the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report.
