At least eight people died and over 50 others were injured in a fire that broke out following a blast in a tank at a chemical factory called Yashashvi Rasayan Private Ltd in Dahej Industrial Estate of Gujarat's Bharuch district on Wednesday, 3 June, said multiple reports.

The explosion of the boiler of the agro-chemical company took place around 12 pm on Wednesday, Bharuch district collector MD Modiya said.

Visuals from the site showed thick plumes of smoke rising into the air.

Earlier, the district collector had said that the injured persons had been shifted to hospitals in Bharuch, and efforts were on to control the fire.

The residents of villages nearby, like Lakhi and Luvara, were being evacuated as a precautionary measure because there are plants with poisonous chemicals around the factory, PTI reported.
