Batchmate Shoots Dead Woman Cop in New Delhi, Kills Self
Personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the killing.
A 26-year-old woman sub-inspector of the Delhi Police was shot dead by her batchmate near Rohini East Metro station on the night of Friday, 7 February, hours before the polling began in Delhi on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector Preeti Ahlawat was posted in Patparganj Industrial Area Police Station and was staying in a rented accommodation in Rohini.
Deepanshu Rathi, who was identified as the shooter and from the same 2018 batch with Ahlawat, allegedly took his own life in Haryana's Sonipat after killing his batchmate, police told NDTV.
What Happened on Friday Night?
A call about the incident was received around 9:30 pm, they said, adding that Ahlawat received three gunshot wounds in her head.
“Around 8.30 pm, she left the station… she was not in uniform. She got out of the metro station around 9.30 pm. She had walked around 50 metres when the incident took place. She was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival,” said a senior police officer quoted by the Indian Express.
"We have identified the suspects and CCTV footage of the area has been collected," said SD Mishra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Rohini).
Three empty cartridges were found from the spot, the officer said, adding a case has been registered and a probe is on.
