The protests erupting from Delhi University’s Ramjas College have stirred a debate around ‘nationalism’ that bears a stark resemblance to the one at Jawaharlal Nehru University, this time last year.

There have been violent clashes, “anti-national” slogans were purportedly raised and and a University has awoken to protect itself from attack.

Amid this debate between the left and the right political factions in the country, a report in The Wire managed to capture the essence of a conversation of a young ABVP supporter.

An audio recording of the conversation – which is coloured with deeply unsettling tones of violence and machismo – was published on The Wire.

Here are some excerpts from what the ABVP supporter had to say about the protests and the violence that ensued.
