Sohanlal Bhartha Valmiki who brutally assaulted Mumbai nurse Aruna Shanbaug, leaving her in a coma for 42 years, has been traced to Parpa village of Hapur district near Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Here’s what he has to say.

Shanbaug died on May 18, 42 years after being in a vegetative state caused by the brutal sexual assault by Valmiki, then a ward boy with KEM Hospital in Parel.

However, Valmiki denied charges of rape and said he is innocent. Valmiki is working in NTPC Ghaziabad to earn livelihood for his family and lives with his in-laws.

The family members and the villagers claim that they never saw Sohanpal indulging in any wrong practices.

He was not charged with rape or sexual assault, but with attempted murder and robbery. After a seven-year jail term, he walked free in 1980.
