Vehicles parked near BJP President Amit Shah's rally venue in West Bengal's East Midnapore were vandalised on Tuesday, 29 January, reported ANI. Visuals from the spot show shattered window panes of vehicles and a motorcycle set on fire.

The BJP has blamed the Trinamool Congress for the violence.

“TMC is afraid of our strength, that’s why they committed violence. (It’s) unfortunate that everything happened in front of the police, attackers didn’t even spare women workers.”

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday and expressed concern regarding the safety of those attending the rally.

BJP's Kailash Vijayvargiya also warned Banerjee and said that the party workers will not get scared by such attacks.

"This will prove to be expensive for Mamataji," he said.

Responding to the allegations by the BJP, TMC leader Madan Mitra said the saffron party had "hired some hooligans from Jharkhand.”

“The beginning of the end of BJP as a whole has already started and it has started from Bengal. BJP has hired some hooligans from Jharkhand. They are doing this because they have no other issue.”

TMC Leader Writes to Amit Shah Over ‘False, Defamatory’ Statements at His Rally

Later, West Bengal Trinamool Mahila Congress President Chadrima Bhattacharya wrote a letter to Amit Shah over "false, untrue and defamatory statements" allegedly made by him against Mamata Banerjee at the public meeting in Kanthi.

“You had, in the open meeting, charged Ms Banerjee of earning crores and crores of rupees from her paintings. You had also stated that the money received by her was the proceeds of Chit Funds. You had alleged that while renowned painters sell their paintings at some thousands rupees, she sells her paintings in crores [sic].”

Bhattacharya refuted Shah's statements, saying they have been made "motivatedly only with a malicious and calculated purpose" and threatened legal action against him.
