Former Union minister V Dhananjay Kumar passed away on Monday, 4 March, in Karnataka’s Mangaluru after prolonged illness, reported ANI.

Kumar, the former Union minister of state for finance from 1999-2000, was in a coma and died of multi-organ failure at Mangaluru’s Unity Hospital, reported News18 Kannada.

A lawyer by profession, Kumar was a loyalist of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and kicked-off his political career with the BJP. He later quit the party and joined the Congress, according to News18 Kannada.

He was a cabinet minister for civil aviation and tourism and also a Union minister of state for Textiles.
