Bengaluru Buildings Collapse: 3-Yr-Old Among 5 Dead, Rescue Ops On

Seven people sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

At least five people were killed and seven injured when two multi-storey residential buildings, including one which was under construction, partly collapsed in Bengaluru early on Wednesday, 10 July.

A few others are feared to be trapped under the debris and rescue operations are underway at the site of the mishap, near Thomas Town.

The accident occurred when the foundation of the four-storey building which had been under construction gave away. Under the impact, the foundation of the adjacent building was affected and both buildings partly sank.

Families living in the adjacent building were quickly evacuated. The deceased, who were mostly migrant labourers from Bihar and Nepal, included a 20-year old woman and her daughter.

Four of the five people who have lost their lives have been identified as Manju Devi (38), Narayan (35), his wife Nirmala (27) and a three-year-old girl, Anushka.

“An extra floor had been built which is  a clear violation of rules. I have instructed officials to take strict action and to demolish such buildings.”

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, and police and fire brigade personnel rescued seven people, who are being hospitalised.
