The driver of an app-based cab aggregator was arrested on Saturday over allegations of sexually assaulting a woman, police said.
Uber driver Gaurav Saha allegedly beat up the girl and tried to sexually assault her inside the cab on Thursday, said an official of the women’s police station in Howrah district.
The girl lodged an FIR against him at the Howrah women’s police station.
Uber has, however, said the driver was not online on its platform when the incident occurred.
The accused has been charged under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty, the official added.
