On Saturday, 13 July, West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle shared a picture on Twitter with liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya which predictably was subject to intense trolling by users of the micro-blogging site.

Gayle played several seasons for the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore, owned by Mallya.

In no time, Twitter users started taking a dig at the former Kingfisher Airlines boss who is wanted in India on fraud and money laundering charges amounting to an alleged Rs 9,000 crores.

In response to the trolls, Mallya told the people to get their facts checked and ask the banks to take the full money that he has been offering for a year.

On 9 June, Mallya was subjected to ‘chor hai’ slogans after the India versus Australia ICC Cricket World Cup match at The Oval in London.

Mallya has continuously made a series of interventions on social media to offer "100 percent payback" to state-owned Indian banks to cover up for his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines' debt.

On 2 July, a UK court had permitted Mallya to appeal against the extradition order to India , ANI reported.
